I'm starting work on my thesis today,

^(Camping on Fire Island)^

So there will be lots of pictures up from that soon (maybe...).

AND I FINALLY FINISHED WORKING ON MY INTERNSHIP PRESENTATION.

I still have one million photos from NYC to edit, but I did a couple for the presentation.

I shot a couple things for IMPOSE this weekend...
(I still have to write the story for Helado Negro and get it up on the site, I've been so busy!)

On Friday, Noveller had a CD release show at Bruar Falls. This is the first noise show I've been to here. I didn't think I'd have a good time, but it was surprisingly awesome.

On Saturday, I went to IMPOSE's Party With Tables

I had never heard any of the bands that played, so I was excited to see some new music. Screaming Females were BY FAR my favorite. They were so awesome.

Future Islands was great too. This guy is a mix between Charlie Slick and Bruce Springsteen. He sings really sad songs to poppy upbeat electro background. AND he is an awesome showman.

ALSO. A great thing about outdoor shows like this...
there's always somebody selling really cheap good food.

It's my last week in NYC this week. I am excited to go back to Michigan, but I'm going to miss it here so much. I'll be out to visit a lot, I'm sure.

This is the view of midtown from our kitchen window.

helado negro

I'm going back to Michigan soon, in a week and a half. I'm excited to see my friends and family, but i am going to miss Kevin and NYC so much.

I don't have enough money to develop any film, and I haven't been shooting digital much lately.

So that's why I haven't updated in a while.

I've only been shooting digital for events, like the show my roommate Brandon planned at the Jackson here in LIC. I'm planning on submitting a set of photos from this show and a story to go with it to IMPOSE.

This band, Helado Negro, was so awesome. They're on Asthmatic Kitty, and they're doing a borough tour (which is awesome).

busy woman

In between doing work for Dominic, I am doing work for IMPOSE and some pro-bono stuff...
IMPOSE just published one of my stories today, HERE

It's about my friend Scott who used to be in this pretty big band (Saturday Looks Good To Me) and now he is doing his own thing as Drunken Barn Dance.

Also, I just did some promo stuff for my friend Joe (used to be in Canada, now is White Pines) who just came out with his album.

Here's my two favorites that I made for him:

I don't know if anybody reading this has ever been to The Strand bookstore, but it's definitely in my top 5 favorite places I've been since I've been here. It's this one-million-story bookstore and Kevin got antsy because I was putzing around last time we went. I could spend weeks in there. I ended up spending about $25 on a polaroid collection book, a Toni Morrison book, and a Breece Pancake book. Everything is really reasonably priced:.

So I was in the photography section upstairs and I found this INCREDIBLE book:

Eirik Johnson Sawdust Mountain

It is a lot better in print (in my opinion). I'm going to have to buy it before I go back to Michigan, it was only $40 for a nice hardcover copy.

In other news, I went on my first shoot with Dominic and did my first shoot for IMPOSE, which is published already HERE, which is really exciting for me. So things are busy.

I went through my old hard drive before I got out here, and I found these two pictures. I never cared about them when I took them, but now that I went back, I really really like the one on the black floor.

the longest blog post in the world.

I guess I never updated about any of my internships.

WELL. I got one with a friend of a friend first, Dominic Neitz, which is awesome because he does personal editorial stuff a lot like the stuff I do/want to do. I think we're attracted to the same sorts of things visually and it's nice to be working with a freelance photographer instead of a company. We're working on his website now and it should hopefully be up by next week.

HERE is his website, once we get it running.

THEN. I ended up getting an internship with IMPOSE magazine, which is basically just them giving me a batch of photos and me retouching/cropping/prepping them for publishing on the web.

HERE is IMPOSE magazine's website, and HERE is the first project I did for them. It was sort-of a weird project for me: their photographer ended up not being able to make it to this event, so they just gave me a bunch of cell phone pictures and really crappy point and shoot pix, and I had to make them all consistent/as un-crappy as I could.

I took this of Morgan when she was visiting. This is on the way home from ToddP's acoustic BBQ at Fort Tilden (the prettiest beach in NYC!). I took it with her camera, and wherever she got it developed messed up the chemicals and there are bubbles all over the film. I sort-of like it...

TWO POSTS IN ONE DAY

Kevin just pointed out that in most of my entries on here I mention how sleepy I am.

Here's a picture of Kevin's silhouette.

Also in my last entry I wanted to post something about how nice it is to finally have time to do personal work now that school is over. So.

It's so nice to do personal work now that school is over. I have been trying to take pictures without trying to compose them or worry too much about things, which is such an awesome feeling. It's finally becoming relaxing for me to have my camera with me, rather than me worrying about how I'm going to compose this, and I am just relying totally on my instincts.
